Prominent Montenegrin emigrant and humanist from the United States of America Blažo Sredanović donated 100,000 euros to the Capital of Cetinje, which will be distributed to children from 20 families in a state of social need.
The capital will transfer the donated money to the accounts of families after the local elections scheduled for December 5, in order to avoid the politicization of this humanitarian act.
“On behalf of the citizens of Cetinje, and especially on behalf of the children for whom the donation is intended, I thank Mr. Sredanović for his charity and humane gesture. It is not the first time that Mr. Sredanović helps Cetinje children and families in a state of social need, and we are not unaware of his attachment to his homeland and Montenegro, but every time we truly admire his dedication and self-sacrifice to lend a hand to those who are capable, talented , good, but are without a opportunity or cannot express themselves due to lack of money “, said the mayor of Cetinje, Aleksandar Kašćelan.
According to him, such examples of philanthropy in challenging and alienated times, instill hope that philanthropy and charity are still alive, and that any support for children to create equal educational and other opportunities pays off many times over in the future.
“Experiencing the act of Mr. Sredanović and as the most representative expression of patriotism and humanism, I made the decision to award him with a medal, in accordance with Article 47 of the Statute of the Capital of Cetinje. This public recognition, which will be awarded for the first time, is given to individuals for their expressed humanity and exceptional contribution from various areas of social life of special importance for the Capital”, said Kašćelan.
He explained that it was planned to award the medal to Sredanović on November 13, on the Day of the Liberation of the Capital City of Cetinje, during the solemn session of the Assembly.
