The delegation, which, like every year since 2005, is led by the Metropolitan of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church (MOC), the Archbishop of Cetinje and the Metropolitan of Montenegro, Mr. Mihailo, was on a two-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of July 11, which was declared the Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Day by the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The main mission of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church through such visits is to strengthen trust between our peoples. In Montenegro, among the Orthodox, there are those who recognize the genocide and sympathize with the mothers of Srebrenica and the survivors. Their fight for the truth is a bright example of how we can and must fight against this common evil of nationalistic hatred, which is being vampirized in our countries, by individual struggle.

On the first day of the visit, July 10, the Metropolitan and his accompanists had a series of meetings with prominent Montenegrins in Sarajevo. On that occasion, he was a guest in the news programs of two of the most watched televisions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, “Hayat” and “Face TV”.

On the second day of the visit, the delegation attended a commemoration at the Potočari Memorial Center on the occasion of marking 29 years since the genocide in Srebrenica. In addition to the clergy, the delegation also included representatives of the Metropolitan Council and Orthodox church municipalities: Milorad Vuković, Vesko Popović, Milovan Jakšić, Vesko Kažić, Đorđe Vujaš, Zlatko Bulić, Vuko Bošković and a representative of the Montenegrin diaspora, Mersudin Redžević.

Metropolitan Mihailo is the first and only head of an Orthodox church who bowed to the shadows of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, back in 2005.
